About this deal

The SR314 is not only designed to capture its source with absolute clarity, but also to reject off-axis material in a natural-sounding way. I finally got a chance to use it recently at a gig I played and the guy running the sound came up to me afterwards and asked me all about it saying it was one of the best mics he has heard and worked with. Unless you go big enough, any problem is the sound engineer, any success is the musicians or the gear.

Add to this the fact that we are running both mics through the UA 4-710D and then into a Behringer X32 rack finishing with Bose F1 model 812 with sub fronts, we have a pretty awesome sounding duo. Audiences experience vocals that sit comfortably and easily in the mix, with every detail and nuance bridging the gap that so often separates live music from recordings. Its stainless steel body is expertly sculpted through precision machining yielding an instrument that is beautiful to look at, balanced in the hand and sensibly engineered for life on the road.

The Earthworks SR314B in black is a live vocal microphone designed from the ground up to meet and exceed the goals and expectations of a modern live performance environment. This microphone was designed as a live vocals microphone, but works very well for live-streaming, podcasting, and voice over work. Protected within its steel exoskeleton is a studio quality small diaphragm cardioid condenser capsule coupled with a Class A amplifier circuit that leverages Earthworks’ patented and proprietary technologies to deliver one of the fastest mics on the planet. With regards to plosives, it can be apparent on the Ps and Bs if you are up close but this is manageable if you pull back a few inches or move off the center line a bit.Great care has been taken to ensure accuracy in the preparation of this article but neither Sound On Sound Limited nor the publishers can be held responsible for its contents.

A cardioid polar pattern forms the backbone of the mic, while low handling noise and an incredibly flat frequency response only augment it further. Capable of handling sound pressure levels of up to 145dB without distortion, the SR314 can handle nearly any vocalist.

unless of course you're doing something wrong - and i haven't come into the situation in which i couldn't get phantom power in more than 30 years! Especially in a vocal/guitar setup, having the voice sound as great as it can is worth every penny IMHO.

The Earthworks apparently sound lovely but the noise floor is still an issue for me, and the polar pattern is too wide for live use in many situations. The Earthworks SR314 is designed from the ground up to meet both the expectations and desires of a modern live performance environment.
