Set Bonus: 20% of your damage and healing and 100% of the armor you gain during Rage of the Sleeper fuel the growth of Dream Thorns, which wreath you in their protection after Rage of the Sleeper expires, absorbing 10% of damage dealt to you while the thorns remain.

Ah, a book that speaks to my soul and spirit. I grew up in Sweden and I've always had a big fascination with the "little folk". Folklore is heavy where I come from and so it seems to be in Scotland and Ireland too. A red rose is not selfish because it wants to be a red rose. It would be terribly selfish if it wanted the flowers in the garden to be all red and all roses.” It’s the time that you spent on your rose that makes your rose so important. People have forgotten this truth, but you mustn’t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed. You’re responsible for your rose.” Set Bonus: 15% of all healing you do to targets with Chi Harmony is stored and then dispersed evenly among your allies with Renewing Mist when Chi Harmony fades or is refreshed.Set Bonus: Primordial Wave summons a Lightning Feral Spirit that increases your Nature damage dealt by 20% for 15 seconds. Set Bonus: Roll the Bones additionally refreshes a random Roll the Bones combat enhancement buff you currently posses for 40 seconds.

Set Bonus: Holy Word: Serenity applies 14 seconds of Renew to its target. Holy Word: Sanctify applies 5 seconds of Renew to allies it heals. Set Bonus: Chill Streak can bounce 2 additional times and each time it bounces, you have a 40% chance to gain a Rune, reduce Chill Streak cooldown by 5 seconds, or reduce the cooldown of Empower Rune Weapon by 10 seconds. Can anyone remember love? It's like trying to summon up the smell of roses in a cellar. You might see a rose, but never the perfume.” Set Bonus: Starsurge or Starfall increase your current Eclipse’s Arcane or Nature damage bonus by an additional 3%, up to 15%. I loved reading a Fae book that was so unlike the others. One thing that threw me off was the “chapters” in this book. They were actually parts and were all very long. It took me a little bit to get into this book because of that, to me it felt like I didn’t have a stopping point in the middle of the parts. I am someone who prefers to stop on chapters, so it took me a while to get through this book because I had to make sure I had uninterrupted time to finish each part. Once I was able to make time to sit and read this part for part without interruptions, I was hooked. I read until my eyes got so tired that I had to stop. The writing was very descriptive, beautiful and it kept me hooked.

This was my first JJA Harwood book and I am a big fan. The pacing was a little slow at first, but once I got about a third of the way in, I was hooked. But then, by the end of the book, the story was its own. Neither a typical Fae/Human bargain tale nor a Tam Lin retelling. It had both, but was still a different story than I expected. I am both delighted and disappointed, truth be told. White rose in the red rose-garden is not so white. Snowdrops, that plead for pardon and pine for fright because the hard east blows over their maiden vows grow not as this face grows from pale to bright.” For the Fae feel left behind and forgotten too. Led by the darkly handsome Lord of the Fae, they are out to make themselves known once more. Moira Jean must enter into a bargain with the Lord to save her friends - and fast, for the longer they spend with the Fae, the less like themselves they will be upon return. If Moira Jean cannot save her friends before Beltane, they will be lost forever... The Thorns Remain by J.J.A. Harwood – eBook Details

Set Bonus: When Glimmer of Light dissipates or is refreshed, it creates a Holy Reverberation on its target to heal an ally or damage an enemy for over 8 seconds. Multiple Holy Reverberations may overlap, up to 3 times. The Thorns Remain is my second novel and I’m so proud of it. If you’re looking for a book full of spooky forests, things lurking between the trees, and unwise bargains, then this is the book for you. It also has a lot of strange things with antlers, an enemies to lovers arc where it’s probably better if they stayed enemies, and a shapeshifting villain that all my friends fancy.

Set Bonus: Living Flame has a chance to apply Echo at 100% effectiveness on allies healed, or a nearby ally who doesn’t already have Echo. Hunter Set Bonus: Casting Prescience enhances your next Eruption with smaller fissures for each Prescience you have active, each dealing 110% SP damage and extending Ebon Might by 0.2 seconds. Rather than writing a forgiving and submissive heroine, Harwood bodly writes a novel when romance doesn't come first. "She did not want to teach The Dreamer what it really meant to love someone, or the real value of truth and kindness. She had her own life to lead."

When not writing, she can be found learning languages, cooking with more enthusiasm than skill, wandering off into clearly haunted houses and making friends with stray cats. Set Bonus: Soulreaper’s execute damage and Abomination Limb’s damage applies Ashen Decay to enemy targets, and Heart Strike and Blood Boil’s direct damage extends Ashen Decay by 1 second. That did NOT happen in this book. The Thorns Remain is a more classic take on fae/human interactions. The Dreamer is cold and calculating. He has no human emotions and isn't looking for his destined mate. Suddenly Moira Jean finds herself all alone, her friends spirited away. The iron medal of her lost love, pinned to her dress, protected her from magic. I did enjoy it most of the time. It's not the best Fae story I've read, but it isn't terrible, and it definitely deserves kudos for not going the way of all Fae/Human bargain stories these days with romance and pixie dust and powerful fairy lords that shift into sweet puppies the moment a pretty human female shows up.
